Tesla Model 3 (Price: INR 35 lakhs)

Tesla Model 3 Tesla CEO, Tesla co-founder and Chief Product Architect Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s new mass market electric car called Tesla Model 3 (model3) on Thursday night.

Musk unveiled an all-wheel drive Tesla Model 3 with 215 miles per hour (346 km/h) top speed, 0 to 60mph acceleration of 5 seconds and an average expected price tag around $42000 – significantly lower than Tesla’s current luxury models like Tesla Model S that starts at $69,500 and Tesla Model X that starts at $85000.

Though not as fast as Tesla Models S or Tesla Model X but it still does 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds which will definitely make it one of the fastest electric vehicles ever made. Tesla says that Tesla Model 3 will be able to go 500km in one charge. Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects Tesla Model 3’s demand to be higher than the company’s other models due to its affordability and claim that it has received “more than 115,000 pre-orders” for Tesla Model 3.

Reservation deposits are $1000 each, which is refundable if customers cancel their order before Tesla ships their car. Tesla plans to start shipping the car by late 2017. The deliveries will begin with Tesla workers getting first dibs followed by current Tesla owners who placed their orders at the event last night. If you were not present at the event you would have to wait until next year or later so better start saving up now if you want the Tesla Model 3 as early as possible. The Mahindra e2o is a four-door electric car, with two doors on one side and two on the other. The production version was revealed in February 2017.

It is Mahindra’s first electric car and runs at a top speed of 80 km/hr (50 mph). Mahindra claims that the e2o has an infinite range, but only when the battery runs down to 15% charge or lower will it enter ‘Eco Mode’. In this mode it travels very slowly, around 10km/h (6mph), conserving battery power. It takes about seven hours to fully charge from zero. Mahindra recommends you do not use the air conditioning while charging because power consumption; instead they suggest keeping the windows up if you are parked in a hot area. Mahindra has already started taking pre-orders for the car, but hasn’t revealed how much it will cost or when delivery will begin. The Renault-Nissan Alliance announced in September 2013 that it would join with Indian multinational Mahindra to develop electric cars.

The Renault-Nissan alliance has Renault which is primarily based in France, while Nissan is headquartered in Japan; whereas the Mahindra Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate company specializing in utility vehicles, information technology and technical consulting.

The Renault-Nissan alliance will be cooperating with Mahindra on electric vehicle development, including a road map of common offerings, converged purchasing and logistics strategies, common battery procurement for Renault and Nissan electric cars from LG Chem’s factory under construction in Korea , as well as joint efforts on recycling programs.

“Yes, we have been exploring various areas of co-operation,” Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan CEO told reporters on the sidelines of Renault-Nissan’s global media gathering in Mumbai .

Renault did not disclose which Renault electric cars would be sold in India via this agreement with Mahindra. Renault describes their new Renault ZOE as “the perfect symbiosis” between an electric motor and petrol engine. It promises a range of for this supermini electric car.

The only specification that seems to be missing is the all-wheel drive option – since the e-Verito is available in front wheel drive , it will probably not fare well on areas which are prone to severe inclement weather conditions.

However, the real question lies if Mahindra can maintain these figures after putting them through our country’s notorious quality assurance process! Having said that though, if Mahindra does manage to deliver good EVs like this one here, other manufacturers may start looking at using electric powertrains as well – so it looks like everyone wins in the end!
